PROGRAM OUTLINE

Introduction to Adaptive Leadership

The practice of leadership involves two core processes: Diagnosis and Action. This session introduces the two-by-two matrix core to the framework and introduces the nature of adaptation.

Distinction Between Technical and Adaptive

The ability to recognize and apply the right skills to an Adaptive Challenge is critical to high performance. Applying the wrong responses to a new problem is a waste of time and resources. This session allows participants to identify the difference between Technical Problems and Adaptive Challenges.

Distinguishing between Leadership and Authority

Which different skills, behaviours and practices are used in positions of authority? Through small group work, participants learn different resources and strategies that can be employed when you exercise leadership or authority.

Getting on the Balcony

Systems thinking is a critical skill for practicing leadership. In this session, participants will learn the importance of being involved in the daily action and rising above to see the broader patterns and surrounding dynamics. Learning to see the structural, political, and social systems will create new possibilities, strategies and choices for participants as they move forward.

Diagnosing Your Leadership Challenge

The peer consulting case methodology has been tested and applied worldwide for 35+ years. It is specifically designed to increase the likelihood of sustainable, systemic change. Participants move ideas from concepts to internalized tools by 1) applying them directly to their own business challenges and 2) building cohorts that problem solve using each other as resources.

Personalizing the Adaptive Challenge

This activity, done in pairs and in the large group, helps participants identify barriers to change and helps illuminate potential ways to move forward
